PhD Studentship: Self-assembling material for guided and hierarchical mineralization in regenerative medicine
The project consists of tuning and optimizing a peptide/protein-based self-assembling matrix designed to nucleate and guide the growth of hydroxyapatite in an anisotropic and hierarchical manner. The goal is to develop a versatile material platform that can be used to create coatings, hydrogels, and 3D printing scaffolds to regenerate hard tissues such as bone and enamel. Specific tasks will include protein modification and characterization, design of supramolecular structures, development of scaffold biomaterials, establishment of biomineralization processes, and in vitro validation. The applicant should have a Bachelors or Masters Degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Nanotechnology, or Engineering. In addition, the project may be suitable for dentists or medical doctors with a musculoskeletal interest. Experience working with elastin-like polymers or polypeptides as well as protein-based materials and biomineralization would be highly advantageous.
