  • Sherif Elsharkawy receives Gordon Research Conference Travel Award

    Sherif Elsharkawy of the Mata Group has been awarded a highly competitive travel award from the Gordon Research Conferences (GRC). Mata Group Bioengineering

We are a highly interdisciplinary group passionate about developing creative and innovative technologies to generate creative solutions for a variety of bioengineering applications. We use interdisciplinary approaches that integrate engineering, materials science, chemistry, nanotechnology, biology, and medicine to develop materials and devices with hierarchical order, biomimetic character, spatio-temporal control, adaptability, tuneability, self-healing capacity, and functionality. Current research in our lab includes the development of in vitro biomimetic environments, dynamic and directed self-assembling systems, molecular patterning of 3D environments, and molecularly-designed bioactive implants. Applications range from tissue engineering and regenerative medicine to drug discovery.
