Congratulations to our PhD Student David Barrett, who has won the 2016 Malcolm Ferguson-Smith Young Investigator Award, which honors the best article published in the Prenatal Diagnosis journal in 2016 with a first author under the age of 40 years. David won this award for his article titled “Connexin 43 is overexpressed in human fetal membrane defects after fetoscopic surgery”.

Arturo Jose Mendoza Meinhardt has been shortlisted to compete as a finalist for the highly prestigious IMECHE (Institution of Mechanical Engineers) Healthcare Technologies Student and Early Career Awards 2017. As a finalist, Arturo will give a 15 minute presentation and answer 5 minutes of questions at the awards ceremoney on 20 June 2017.
Arturo Jose Mendoza Meinhardt wins the best UK Polymer Graduate Award in 2016

Arturo Jose Mendoza Meinhardt, who graduated last year with a 1st class BEng degree in Materials Science and Engineering, and is now a PhD in the Mata group, has been awarded the RH Craven Award of the Institute of Materials, Minerals, and Mining (IOM3), given to the best UK materials graduate in with excellence in polymers of the year 2016.
Sherif Elsharkawy receives Gordon Research Conference Travel Award

Sherif Elsharkawy of the Mata Group has been awarded a highly competitive travel award from the Gordon Research Conferences (GRC). The award covers travel to the highly prestigious Biomineralization GRC 2016, in which Sherif will present his most recent work on hierarchical biomineralization of protein-peptide based scaffolds for the formation of enamel-like structures.
