Clara L. Hedegaard gave an oral presentation on ‘Using droplet-on-demand-based printing to guide self-assembly in a peptide-protein based bioink’ at the 70th Annual Meeting of the American Physical Society Division of Fluid Dynamics.
The meeting was held November 19 – 21, 2017 in downtown Denver, Colorado at the Colorado Convention Center. This is one of the largest gatherings of the fluid dynamics research community in the world. The Division of Fluid Dynamics of the American Physical Society exists for the advancement and diffusion of knowledge of the physics of fluids with special emphasis on the dynamical theories of the liquid, plastic and gaseous states of matter under all conditions of temperature and pressure.

Congratulations to our PhD Arturo Jose Mendoza Meinhardt, who has won the prize for the best poster given at the 2017 Autumn Industrial Liaison Forum of the School of Engineering and Materials Science, Queen Mary University of London on November 12th, for his poster titled ‘Peptide Amphiphiles as a Platform for the Manipulation of Protein Conformation’.

Alvaro Mata is to give a Plenary lecture at the 4th EURO BIOMAT 2017 (The European Symposium & Exhibition on Biomaterials and Related Areas) in Weimar, Germany, May 9-10.
The conference takes place every two years, with the 2017 meeting aiming to address the growing interest of science and industry in the different aspects of the creation, characterization, testing and application of biomaterials and closely related areas. It brings together experts in closely related areas, such as biomimetics, biomineralization and biopolymers.

Alvaro Mata has been invited to give a keynote lecture in the 2017 Future Innovators of Regenerative Medicine (FIRM) Symposium. The talk will focus on enabling biomaterials and biofabrication technologies for regenerative medicine. The 2017 FIRM Symposium will take place in Girona, Spain. September 2017.

Our PhD student Sherif Elsharakawy has won the annual Royal Microscopical Society (RMS) Beginners’ Competition for his presentation entitled ‘Multiple Length-Scale Imaging of Biomimetic Hierarchical Mineralized Materials’. His research focuses on engineering protein-based membranes and gels with mineralizing domains in order to develop novel hierarchically ordered apatite crystals as a step towards dental enamel regeneration.
