  • Alvaro Mata to give keynote address in the FIRM 2017 symposium

    Alvaro Mata has been invited to give a keynote lecture in the 2017 Future Innovators of Regenerative Medicine (FIRM) Symposium. The talk will focus on enabling biomaterials and biofabrication technologies for regenerative medicine. The 2017 FIRM Symposium will take place in Girona, Spain. September 2017.

    Arturo Jose Mendoza Meinhardt, who graduated last year with a 1st class BEng degree in Materials Science and Engineering, and is now a PhD in the Mata group, has been awarded the RH Craven Award of the Institute of Materials, Minerals, and Mining (IOM3), given to the best UK materials graduate in with excellence in polymers of the year 2016.

Mata Group Bioengineering

We are a highly interdisciplinary group passionate about developing creative and innovative technologies to generate creative solutions for a variety of bioengineering applications. We use interdisciplinary approaches that integrate engineering, materials science, chemistry, nanotechnology, biology, and medicine to develop materials and devices with hierarchical order, biomimetic character, spatio-temporal control, adaptability, tuneability, self-healing capacity, and functionality. Current research in our lab includes the development of in vitro biomimetic environments, dynamic and directed self-assembling systems, molecular patterning of 3D environments, and molecularly-designed bioactive implants. Applications range from tissue engineering and regenerative medicine to drug discovery.
